9.8 How to Create a Trial Exam

A trial exam is a mock or practice exam. Students use it to become familiar with the exam interface before a real exam. Its marks do not count toward the course weightage. In this example, the trial exam Sample Practice Trial Exam is created for Sample Course.

BEFORE YOU START
  • The course must be published, with formative items in its item bank.
  1. On the Exam Listing screen, select Add New Exam.

The Add New Exam wizard opens (see section 9.4.1).

  1. Under Select Exam Type, select Trial Exam.
  2. Select Classical Exam or Equivalent Exam.
  3. Select Next.

The Select Course step opens.

  1. Select the course.
  2. Select Next.

Your Selection displays Single Course – Trial Exam – Classical Exam. A trial exam has no assessment type.

  1. Under Exam Mode, select Online, Offline + Transit or Offline.
  2. Select Next.

The Manage Exam screen opens on the Exam Info tab.

  1. Complete the Exam Info tab, for example with the title Sample Practice Trial Exam.
  2. On the Assessment Type sub-tab, enter the Exam Total Marks, Passing Marks and Number of Questions Required. A trial exam has no weightage.
  3. Select Update & Next.

The Blueprint sub-tab opens.

  1. Add the items with or without a blueprint (see sections 9.4.5 and 9.4.7).

A trial exam uses formative items by default. To also use summative items, select Include Summative Items in the blueprint, Include Summative Items Also in the Select Item Types popup, or Summative or Both under Assessment Type in the item criteria.

  1. Complete the remaining tabs (see sections 9.4.8 to 9.4.11).
  2. On the Schedule Exam tab, select Availability Based Exam, and enter the start and end dates and times, the Duration and the Exam Upload Time (see section 9.4.12).
  3. Save the exam and publish it (see sections 9.4.13 and 9.4.14).

The trial exam is listed on the Published tab, and students can start it at any time within the period.

ℹ NOTE: For a trial exam, AI Proctoring with Continuous Images can be used without adding proctors.
