How to Create an Open Exam?
This guide explains the procedure for creating an open exam in the system.
Let us walk you through the process of creating an open exam, highlighting its key features to ensure a clear and simple experience.
- On the “Home” page, click “Manage Exams” in the “Exam” menu.
- On the “Exam Listing” page, click “Add New Exam.”
- A “Choose Your Exam” screen opens.
- Click “Open Exam”, and move forward by clicking on “Next.”
- Now comes the part of course selection.
- An open exam allows you to choose multiple courses, so we are proceeding with two courses.
- Click “Next” to proceed.
- Now comes the “Exam Type”. We are proceeding with a single classical exam.
- Click “Next” to proceed.
- After completing basic information, you are now at the “Manage Exam” screen.
- Its first phase is “Exam Info.” You need to specify the “Language” in which you want your exam to appear to students during the exam conduction phase.
- Choose from “English” or “Arabic.”
- We are proceeding with “English” for now.
- Provide a “Title” to your exam.
- Write any special notes related to the exam in “Student Instructions.”
- Once you have completed it, please click “Save” to proceed to the next step.
- After completing “Exam Info”, you are now on the second phase of “Manage Exam.” It is the “Exam Construction” phase, and its first part is selecting the “Assessment Type.”
- Now, you need to provide the “Exam Total Marks”, “Passing Marks”, and “Number of Questions Required.”
- Click “Update & Next” to move forward.
- Now, you are at the second phase of “Exam Construction”, which is “Scope”.
- It will show you “Total Required Items”, “Selected Course Items”, and “Selected Scope Items”.
- We selected the required items as 3. Selected course items and selected scope items are zero for now. We will choose them later.
- You will see “Objectives” against each activity as zero.
- Click on the activity(s) that you want to add up.
- Once done successfully, click “Update & Next.”
- Now, you are at the third stage of exam construction, which is selecting “Item Type(s).”
- Choose single or multiple item types, and proceed with them.
- All Bank Items for the Course means those items that are available in the item bank.
- Newly Added Items for the Course are those items that have been newly added.
- After you have completed the process of selecting the item(s), click Update & Nextto proceed to the next and last stage of exam construction, which is “Sections.”
- While creating an open exam, if you want to divide your exam into sections, enable time-based sections, and then time to solve each item, please go to “How to Create a Section-based Exam?”
- We are proceeding without dividing our open exam into sections and clicking “Update & Next.”
- Now, you are at the third stage of the “Manage Exam” screen.
- Here, “Total Required Items”, “Total Selected Items”, and “Duration” could be seen.
- If you want to divide exam into sections, click the “Manage Sections” button, and the system will automatically take you back to the previous screen of dividing the exam into sections. For now, we are proceeding without sections.
- Now comes the part of adding items to our open exam.
- Previously, we selected the “Item Types(s)”; now we will add items by clicking on “Add Items.”
- After clicking “Add Items”, you will be directed to a screen where you can filter and select the items you want to add. This screen is titled “Criteria for Pulling Items out of Bank.”
- Firstly, choose the course of items. Either “Inscope” or “All Course Items.”
- “Inscope” items mean the specific items that are in scope of that course, and “All Course Items” mean all items from that course.
- Select the desired course that contains items from the “Select Course” dropdown.
- That being done, keep checking the box of every filter if you want to search for that specific item from item bank.
- Choose “Activity”, and then select the activity from its drop-down field.
- Choose “Educational Domain” to search the educational domain attached to the item.
- A component of the item can also be chosen. Select the “Item Component” checkbox, and then choose from “Stem”, “Question”, and “Options.”
- You can search for the item by writing the file tag value in the “File Tag” field.
- An item can be searched through “Additional Classification” as well.
- The “Item Language” is already selected as English.
- Mark the checkbox of “CLO”, and write CLO(s) in the given field if the item you are searching is classified with CLO.
- The same goes for “Objective”. Mark the checkbox of “Objective”, and write Objectives(s) in the given field if the item you are searching is classified with CLO.
- The checkbox of “Item Type” is already selected, and the type of item is mentioned in the given field, since we have already selected the item type.
- Similarly, the checkbox of “Item Tag” can be marked and searched for the item.
- You can mark the checkbox of “Item ID”, and then provide the item ID in the given field.
- The box of “Item Author” can be selected, and the name of the author can be chosen from the desired field.
- Lastly, choose from “Single Items”, or “Paired Items.”
- Upon successful completion of all the steps, you can either click the “Search” button to filter the items and get your desired items, or simply click the “Reset” button to fix searches that got messed up.
- If the filtration process is successfully completed and you are satisfied with your filters, click “Search” to have the filtered items, and then choose from those items.
- Here, every item has significant details of “Item Type”, “File Tag”, “Item ID”, and “Author Name.”
- Besides, “Stem” and “Question” can be viewed.
- Upon clicking , more details of the item can be seen.
- Choose the items, and click “Add Items” to proceed.
- You are still on the “Exam Management” screen. To learn how to divide marks, manage sections, or add items, please refer to the “Equivalent Exam” for detailed instructions.
- Next up, since the stages of “Manage Students”, “Locations”, “Exam Settings”, “Proctor Management”, “Schedule Exam”, and “Save” are same for a single exam, please refer to the single exam. We have provided explanatory guidance there.
